Last year I had to devote several months to find a house to rent, which was understandable. This year, I did not think I would have to stress about housing at all now that I am in one, but Howington and Burrell Reality made renewing just as stressful as originally finding the home, and we ultimately decided to move elsewhere with a more professional realtor. Transitioning from on campus living to off campus is an important step to the overall transition into adulthood, which is one of the main points of college. Howington and Burrell Reality do not respect this transition because they do not respect the students that are working to become members of the community. By treating us like children with no understanding of how their “business” works, they are not leaving their customers happy. Maybe they respect their older clients and actually provide them with quality housing, but I cannot recommend them to other college students at all.
This is a great business with even better people running it. Both Jason and Chris work hard all the time and and know exactly what they are doing. They rent, sell, and manage houses like no ones business and will put lots of effort into finding, listing, or keeping up with any property you need. These guys are great!
The main point of this review is that Howington and Burrell Reality does not respect the college students who comprise a large portion of their business. Overcharging for rent is one thing, for every reality business in Milledgeville does that, but treating adults like children is another thing entirely. My roommates and I have been entirely responsible renters, and I have tried from day one to establish that we could be trusted and that we wanted an adult relationship with our landlords. Instead, Howington and Burrell Reality refused to accept that we were planning on resigning our lease, implying that, simply because we were having difficulties finding another roommate, we were not serious about renewing and therefore needed to be pressured into leaving. They put a "FOR RENT” sign in front of the house, and then started showing the house to other students who were inevitably going to be disappointed, since we were going to renew. During one house showing, I tried to explain our situation to Howington and Burrell’s assistant Stacey, and her reaction to everything that I said made me feel as though she did not believe anything I was saying, and overall she seemed very rude during the interaction. They also tried to increase the rent on us after originally giving us documentation that the rent would stay the same, and they only way I found out about this was from their assistant snidely informing me during my unpleasant interaction with her.
